How to Prepare Direct and Indirect Speech

Direct and indirect speech are asked in English comprehension tests, in various competitive exams such as SSC, Bank, Railways, Teaching, NDA, MBA, etc. Direct/Indirect speech is all about changing the narration of sentences. You will be given a sentence either in direct speech or in indirect speech, and you need to change it in another form/speech. Out of four alternatives, you need to spot the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

How to score maximum in Direct and Indirect Speech

* For changing direct speech into indirect speech and vice-versa, go through the basic grammar rules and applications first.

* Get used to the rules, especially, how the subject, object, and tense change.

* There are different rules to change different sentences from direct to indirect speech. You can refer to our detailed teacher's notes on Direct/Indirect speech.

* Look at the following rules, how they change in the narration-

* Remain calm during the test.

* No need to spend much time on a particular question. Move to the next question and review it in the end if time allows.

* Go through a standard grammar book of your choice to brush up basic rules of active/passive voice. OR, Refer to our teachers’ notes.
