How to Prepare Antonyms

Antonyms are asked in English comprehension test in various competitive exams such as SSC, Bank, Railways, Teaching, NDA, MBA, etc. You need to choose one out of four options which is opposite in meaning to the given word. Antonyms test your vocabulary and usage of alternate words in the opposite context. It doesn’t only help you to score better in competitive exams, but it also helps you in writing emails, letters, etc. after you land a job.

How to score maximum in Antonyms

* Here, your reading habit plays the most important role. Different articles in the newspaper can help you know the words in different and opposite contexts.

* After you see a new word, look up its usage in opposite context in the dictionary. Now, prepare your own sentences to make sure that you've understood the meaning of the word.

* You can also note down the roots of the words that will help you make the best guess of the opposite meaning of the words.

* Make a list of new words along with opposite meanings, and arrange them in different categories. It will help you in practice and revision.

* Practice using both synonyms and antonyms to construct sentences in the same context. It'll help you to see a word from two different sides.

Notes:

* Remain calm during the test.

* No need to spend much time on a particular question. Move to the next question and review it in the end if time allows.

* Go for a book in which you can find collection of antonyms divided into different categories. OR, refer to our teachers’ notes.

* Make a habit of reading. Read articles/newspapers/novels etc. It’ll help you learn new and commonly used words.
